Review: Unremembered (Unremembered #1) By: Jessica Brody

Title: Unremembered (Unremembered #1)
Author: Jessica Brody
Published: March 5th, 2013
Source: Bought
My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Goodreads Summary:

When Freedom Airlines flight 121 went down over the Pacific Ocean, no one ever expected to find survivors. Which is why the sixteen-year-old girl discovered floating among the wreckage—alive—is making headlines across the globe.

Even more strange is that her body is miraculously unharmed and she has no memories of boarding the plane. She has no memories of her life before the crash. She has no memories period. No one knows how she survived. No one knows why she wasn’t on the passenger manifest. And no one can explain why her DNA and fingerprints can’t be found in a single database in the world.

Crippled by a world she doesn’t know, plagued by abilities she doesn’t understand, and haunted by a looming threat she can’t remember, Seraphina struggles to piece together her forgotten past and discover who she really is. But with every clue only comes more questions. And she’s running out of time to answer them.

Her only hope is a strangely alluring boy who claims to know her from before the crash. Who claims they were in love. But can she really trust him? And will he be able to protect her from the people who have been making her forget?

From popular young adult author Jessica Brody comes a compelling and suspenseful new sci-fi series, set in a world where science knows no boundaries, memories are manipulated, and true love can never be forgotten.

My Thoughts:

I have to admit that I was a bit hesitant on reading this one because I kept seeing some on the fence ratings and reviews, but I picked this one up finally as my TBR Thursday pick because I have had it on my shelf for so long and I am working on whittling down my physical books that I haven’t read yet. But, I have to say I really enjoyed Unremembered. I understand why so many people were in the middle of the road when they reviewed this book because I really enjoyed it but, there was just something missing to make me love it and give it that extra rating. But I definitely want to continue with the series and find out what happens next, there was a great twist at the end that I didn’t see coming at all.

Seraphina is the only survivor of a mysterious plane crash in the Pacific Ocean, she is sixteen and has no memories of anything about her or her life before the crash. Her face becomes splashed all over the news with people trying to find out who she is and who her family is but, no one comes to claim her. Over and over, Sera keeps hearing how beautiful she is and the world is a completely confusing place for her. She doesn’t know anything about the world, what a grocery store is or what her name even is. But, a mysterious boy keeps popping up where she is trying to convince her that she knows him from before the crash and he is going to help her but, for that to happen she has to trust and believe in what he is saying because the truth is, she doesn’t know anything.

Sera was definitely an interesting character, she was completely lost in the real world and it was fun getting to see her reactions to everyday things that we would never think twice about. She had a huge air of mystery around her throughout most of the book and that might have been what was pushing me forward and wanting to keep reading, I needed to figure out along with her who she was and what was really going on. I really felt for her because I couldn’t imagine being in her shoes and having all of these things being thrown at me at once and trying to process it all.

The romance was completely overpowering which I really enjoyed and that might have just been because of the memory loss but, I enjoyed it and we got to find out so much along with Sera and you felt like you were on her journey with her.

Overall, Unremembered was a solid light sci fi read that I really enjoyed, I don’t know what it was missing, maybe I am just getting pickier but, it needed something else to make it really amazing. I definitely recommend it for anyone wanting to read a quick and fast paced mystery with a bit of sci fi added in. It was a pretty short read and time definitely flew by.

  1. I have this on my shelf, and I also keep procrastinating on reading it due to prior reviews I read. I'm so happy to see you enjoyed it overall, despite it's lack of a wow factor. Great review! :)
