Review: Dash and Lily's Book of Dares By: Rachel Cohn and David Levithan

Title: Dash and Lily's Book of Dares
Author: David Leviathan and Rachel Cohn
Published: October 26th, 2010

My Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
Goodreads Summary:

“I’ve left some clues for you.
If you want them, turn the page.
If you don’t, put the book back on the shelf, please.”

So begins the latest whirlwind romance from the bestselling authors ofNick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on a favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. But is Dash that right guy? Or are Dash and Lily only destined to trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations across New York? Could their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions? Or will they be a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?

Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have written a love story that will have readers perusing bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.

My Thoughts:

This book was a cute and quick read. An overall adorable romance that had me laughing out loud at times. I had never read either of these authors so I was definitely curious because I know how popular he is. I am guessing of course but, each chapter alternates between the POV of Dash and Lily, I assume he wrote Dash and Rachel wrote Lily, the story was just plain fun and a bit of an adventure.

Lily’s brother and his boyfriend decide that they need to find her a boyfriend, so they take a notebook inviting a boy to begin with a series of dares and leave it in The Strand for someone to find, Dash finds the notebook which begins a friendship with Lily and Dash passing the notebook back and forth and leading them on all kinds of crazy adventures around New York.

Lily was such a fun character, I could picture her so vividly because of the way she is described. She loves Christmastime and it was so funny to see how much she could get into all of it. It made me want to go and visit New York at Christmas myself just to see all the wonder she found around every corner. Dash on the other hand was the complete opposite of Lily and as he left the notebook with different relatives they kept describing him as Snarly. But through the notebook Lily is taken out of her comfort zone and learns different things about herself and has so much fun.

Overall, this book was just plain fun, I enjoyed the story and it was definitely a good time for me to read this and just gave me what I needed a little romance and a lot of fun. It was so cute and who doesn’t like a cute romance every once in a while.
